I accidentally bought a container of 11,000 perler beads. Oops. Instead of sending them back to Amazon, Annabel and I have been on a perler bead bracelet-making marathon. I've been wearing mine every day. The colors are cheery, it's comfortable, and it goes with everything. Plus, Annabel made it!
I was thinking that Annabel would use all the purple beads up first. She surprised me by deciding to choose the beads randomly out of the bowl.
This thin sparkle elastic cord was leftover from a previous project. It works well and is easily tied into a knot. I always add a few extra inches of cord so I'm not frustrated by having to tie short ends together. It is also to nice be able to trim it as she beads, because sometimes it frays.
I measure enough cord for her to bead so it can either be wrapped around a wrist two or three times, plus waste. I like the two-strand effect, but if you make one with three strands you can actually wear it as a necklace, too. She's been making them for friends, and putting them in birthday cards that we give people. We haven't gotten around to using the perler beads the traditional way — creating patterns that get ironed and fused into solid shapes. With 11,000 beads, there's plenty of time for that!
Have fun beading,
