For our April do. Good Stitches blocks we were asked by our Harmony Circle leader, Emily, to make patchwork heart blocks. 53 squares per block times 2 blocks is a lot of squares!
I used seven different low volume prints for the background and eight for the red heart. I'd love to see this with a purple heart or even, yes, radiant orchid. I used my Sizzix BigZ XL 25" die - 2 1/2" squares to die cut all the fabric except for the squares for the half square triangles which need to be slightly larger.
The tutorial and fabric requirements for these blocks can be found here at Crimson Tate. I didn't use the fusible interfacing but pieced them the traditional way, pressing the first row of seams to the left, the second row to the right and so on. I then pressed the seams open between rows. I got so carried away I wound up making too many half square triangles. There might be another one of these in my future.
In other news, I can happily report that I'm past the halfway point with my king size plus quilt. Half the blocks are done and sewn into rows, and the other half is cut and being laid out on the design wall. Whew! I'm threatening to start a #largequiltsupportgroup on Instagram. Have a terrific week,
