I have a new quilt pattern and tutorial out today, and it's my first quilt for Sizzix. For the past year or so I've been collecting crab, lobster and fish fabrics to make a quilt for Colton. He was so excited that it was difficult to bind — he wanted to roll in it, snuggle, and use it as a ramp for his cars.
I chose a bright aqua for the backing and quilted it with subtle horizontal waves. Two of the prints are available at Hawthorne Threads: Lobsters in White and Crabs in Blue. The larger crabs are by Ed Emberley for Cloud 9 Organic. Peg from Sew Fresh Fabrics saved me when I ran out of Kona in Oyster for the sandy triangles. I also stocked up on Oval Elements from her shop a while back and this quilt is bound with Papaya Orange. A similar variety of yellow solids is availble as a Color Wheel Bundle from Marmalade Fabrics. Finished size of thi quilt is 56" square.
I created a center pool of squares surrounded by rays of sun. Ideally, I would have taken it to the beach for photos instead of the woods at our house, but fickle New England weather made it difficult. Instead of having to clean sand off it, I splashed it with mud. Fortunately, I'd already taken enough photos.
